Pray for Delhi

January 9 - Sunshine

Sunshine* has recently expressed a desire to move to the United States to attend graduate school for business. Like many young Indian men, Sunshine has huge ambitions to change the world while making lots of money. He is continuing to pursue a graduate degree in Delhi while also trying to figure out what to do with his life.

He has also mentioned that he has had discussions with others about the existence of God and other spiritual matters. While his spiritual "progress" may seem slow to someone with earthly eyes, Sunshine IS still seeking truth.

Please take a moment today to pray that God's Word and Holy Spirit would pierce Sunshine's heart with truth, pointing him to the uniqueness and supremacy of Jesus. Join with us in praying that God would convince Sunshine that he is lost, separated from God, and destined to eternity without God unless he chooses to enter into relationship with our Creator. (Romans 3:23)

January 7 - Pi and Rani

We recently heard from Pi and Rani* for the first time in many months. Pi has received a promotion to a senior management position and seems to be achieving many of the goals that he has set out for himself.

Spiritually, however, this family remains dry. They are a sweet family who is searching for God - worshiping idols in their home, attending worship ceremonies where Jesus is worshiped - yet they have not surrendered themselves to Jesus and accepted his gift of grace.

As you pray today, ask that Pi's earthly goals and dreams would be replaced by spiritual dreams and spiritual longings. Pray that his heart would feel a great discontent until he finally answers Jesus' call on his life.

January 1 - A New Creation!

"This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!" - 2 Corinthians 5:17

As a new year begins, people generally think about a chance to start over again, to throw out the old and begin afresh with something clean and full of promise. Amazingly, God offers this chance every second of every day! Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person and has cast off his old life! What an amazing gift that the Father has given to each and every one of us.

If you're checking this site and praying for the people of Delhi, we assume that you have already experienced this radical transformation and are now living with the joy of your new life. Today, please remember the millions of people in this city who have never felt that joy. So many are still slaves to their sin and have never known the joy and peace and freedom that you know through the Spirit. Pray that people all of Delhi would believe in Jesus so that they may belong to Him and experience new life!

December 31 - Jay & Sweetie

Jay* and Sweetie* are a newly-married couple who have a strong entrepreneurial spirit. The two operate their own computer service and sales business in a successful Delhi market area. This couple has had exposure to the truth through relationships and from a national believer who shared with them in a way that is very easy for Hindus to understand.

Ask that they would understand in their hearts that Jesus is the true God, the one who loves them and desires to be in relationship with them. Father, in the name of Jesus, we plead that You will draw Jay and Sweetie to Jesus Christ in true faith and repentance (John 6:44).

December 28 - Why Pray?

Why do we pray? As believers, why check this blog to see how we can pray for the people of Delhi and for the Lord's work there? Does it really matter? Let's look at God's Word to see what it has to say about this subject.

"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us." - 1 John 5:14

"If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given to you." - John 15:7

"The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him." - Psalm 24:1

"I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not give my glory to anyone else. I will not share my praise with carved idols!" - Isaiah 42:8

"No matter how deep the stain of your sins, I can remove it. I can make you as clean as freshly fallen snow. Even if you are stained as red as crimson, I can make you as white as wool." - Isaiah 1:18

The high-caste, educated Hindus of Delhi need your intercession in order for most of them to hear the Truth. They need you to lift them up before the One and Only God to plead for their salvation!

December 27 - Citywide Christmas Sharing

Over the past week, many Hindus in Delhi have casually celebrated Christmas as they like to participate in the gift-gifting and general merriment that they observe in the Western celebrations of Christmas. Even today, however, most will hear and know nothing of the true meaning of Christmas.

Today, please pray for the hearts of those who don't know Jesus, that they would be softened as they have heard how God sent his son as a small baby in order to redeem the entire world from an eternity of death. Pray that those who have heard this message from other believers recently would really question in their hearts the meaning of it all. Lord, reveal yourself to this TODAY, letting them know that their Savior has come and that he still wants to know them this very day.

December 26 - Christmas Follow-up

Just a quick update for you pray-ers. THANKS A TON for praying. We had about 40 of our neighbors come over and celebrate Christmas with us. They came about 6:00 and left about 7:30, but it was a tremendous time. We were able to tell the whole Christmas story and everyone was spellbound. It was incredible…then we all sang some bhajans (worship songs) and then Jingle Bells. It was tremendous.

We now have so many opportunities to go into all the homes because people asked us over and over to come and visit them…so we will! We also gave the evangelistic film to them as they were leaving…so more of the Word will get into these homes. Praise the Lord!

Please continue to pray for the follow-up from this event. 40 people is a tremendous number! Join with us in asking the Father that each these believers would be able to follow up with each person who attended. For those who heard the Christmas story, we pray that their hearts would be pierced with the love and truth of Jesus Christ. May he make them new creations in Him.

December 23 - Christmas Event

Prayer Alert!

Be in prayer for a neighborhood Christmas Tea that will take place on the afternoon of Tuesday, December 25. More than 20 people have shown interest in attending this event which will involve worshiping Jesus, sharing with many Hindus about the meaning of Christmas and the importance of Christ's coming to earth, and the distribution of an evangelistic movie that will further explore the life and sacrifice of Jesus.

This is a very meaningful event for many reasons. First, many Hindus will be hearing about Christmas - something that most see as a commercial Western holiday. Second, this will be the first opportunity for most people at this event to ever interact with followers of Jesus or to see him worshiped in a truly Indian manner.

Please pray right now that each person attending this event would come with spiritually open eyes and ears. Pray that the Holy Spirit would meet each person at their unique point of need and draw them into his presence.

In the future, we will give you more specific names of people for whom you can pray.

December 10 - Andy and Parri

Andy and Parri* remain very busy with their jobs, especially at the end of the month when sales goals need to be met. Their son is healthy and happy, and he brings them lots of joy.

A few months ago, we praised God that Andy and Parri* had made some new friends in Delhi, who are followers of Jesus. Today we are praying that the Father would continue to use friends and new acquaintances to impact these family. Lord, we ask that your Spirit would use the people in Andy and Parri's lives to share with them the truth of Jesus Christ and that their spiritual eyes would open to the wonderful love of the Father. Cause them to question their own beliefs and to be open and vulnerable to new ideas.

December 7 - Satsang with Friends (Update)

Thank you for your prayers for last Sunday's satsang with many interested seekers who were encountering Jesus in this setting for the first time. The Father answered so many of our requests:

• Six adults and seven children attended and were both attentive and involved throughout the entire event.
• The Word was shared and there was much good discussion about it.
• All of the believers were able to engage the other participants in meaningful conversations following the event. A number of friendships were formed.
• One woman asked how often these take place and when the next one will be!
• The only complaint was that the event was not long enough!

Lord, we continue to pray that spiritual hearts, eyes and ears would be opened and that the people who attended this worship event will see and receive the True Light - Jesus.
